Those who know me understand that I’m someone who loves diving headfirst into the unknown. When I landed at Denpasar Airport in Bali, I had only booked accommodation for the first two nights in Kuta. I wanted to surrender to the flow of the journey, leaving space for the road to lead me wherever I was meant to go.
Diving into the Unknown: My Journey of Serendipity in Bali
Friends had told me about Bali’s special charm—the kindness of its people, the ease of navigating the island as a solo traveler, and the magic of Ubud. Trusting their advice, I set off with an open heart and gratitude for every moment.
During my time in Kuta, I joined a few day tours to explore the main attractions around the area. Afterward, I headed to Ubud, once again booking just a few nights in advance. Exploring Ubud’s surroundings, I stumbled upon the Yoga Barn. The experience was so transformative that I purchased a weeklong unlimited pass and made it a daily ritual.
I walked everywhere, often sticking to familiar routes where friendly locals greeted me warmly after just a few days. I quickly felt at home. However, the nighttime presented its challenges—packs of dogs on dark, unlit streets sometimes made returning from late yoga classes a bit intimidating. In those moments, I learned it’s often better to hire a scooter after dark for added safety.
This journey taught me the beauty of embracing the unexpected, and it deepened my connection to Bali’s heart and soul.
... So, Bali, Indonesia, is a dream destination for solo travelers. Known for its vibrant culture, lush landscapes, and warm hospitality, this tropical paradise offers countless opportunities for self-discovery, relaxation, and adventure. Having spent two unforgettable weeks exploring Bali, I want to share my personal experience and tips to help you make the most of your solo journey.
Why Bali is Perfect for Solo Travelers
Bali is a haven for solo adventurers because of its welcoming locals, diverse activities, and established tourist infrastructure. Whether you’re seeking mindfulness in a yoga studio, the thrill of hiking a volcano, or a deeper connection to Balinese culture, Bali has something for everyone.
Must-Visit Places in Bali
Kuta Beachside
Kuta is often the first stop for many travelers, offering a lively beach vibe and plenty of opportunities for relaxation or adventure.
Ubud: Bali’s Cultural Heart
Ubud is a sanctuary for mindfulness and creativity, surrounded by terraced rice fields and lush forests.
The Colorful Ubud Market
One of the most vibrant and memorable experiences in Ubud is visiting the Ubud Market. Famously featured in Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts, this bustling market perfectly encapsulates the soul of Balinese life.
Mount Batur: Sunrise Trekking Adventure
One of my most memorable experiences was hiking Mount Batur for a sunrise view. The trek begins in the early hours of the morning, but the reward is worth the effort: panoramic views of the island bathed in golden light.
Safety Tips for Solo Travelers
Traveling solo in Bali is generally safe, but it’s always wise to stay vigilant. Here are some tips to ensure a smooth journey:
While Bali is known for its friendly locals, it’s also home to many street dogs that can appear intimidating, especially at night. The key is to stay calm and confident. Don’t stare at the dogs; instead, ignore them with a composed demeanor, keeping your head and chest up. Avoid showing nervousness or timid behavior, as actions like hiding behind someone, making sudden movements, or staring at the dog can signal vulnerability and provoke their interest or aggression. Maintaining steady energy is usually enough for the dogs to leave you alone and continue on their way.
Best Yoga Studios in Bali
Bali is often called the “Island of the Gods,” and its spiritual energy makes it a global hub for yoga enthusiasts.
Radiantly Alive Yoga (Ubud): Known for its passionate teachers and wide range of styles, this studio is another top pick.

Cultural Etiquette in Bali
Bali’s rich culture is deeply rooted in Hindu traditions, and respecting local customs is essential for a meaningful experience.
What Made Bali Special for Me
From walking through Ubud’s vibrant markets to feeling a deep sense of peace during yoga classes at the Yoga Barn, Bali’s charm is undeniable. The sunrise trek to Mount Batur was a reminder of nature’s beauty, while sipping luwak coffee amidst rice fields was a moment of pure bliss.
Solo travel in Bali is more than just a getaway; it’s an opportunity to grow, connect, and explore. Whether you’re meditating in a yoga class, trekking a volcano, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, Bali offers an unforgettable journey tailored to your soul’s needs.
So pack your bags, embrace the adventure, and let Bali inspire your next solo escape.

HEY, I’M EDINA…
I was born with a wanderlust. For as long as I can remember, my world has been in motion. Whether it’s a small trip or a big adventure, the important thing is that something’s moving beneath me—be it puffing, rolling, chugging, flying, or floating. It could be a bike, a motorbike, a car, a bus, a train, a canoe, a boat, a ferry, or even a plane. And if none of those are an option, at least my legs keep me going. Every journey is a gift for my soul, even if it’s just a stroll through the fields or a visit to the next village.
